The Steps

The following steps are mentioned in the tracts and choreographies:

sempio one step forward, with a displacement of the weight, in general, two such singlets a danced in any given measure.

doppio three steps forward within one measure.

continenza a small step sidewise, two of them are danced in any given measure.

ripresa a step sidewise, to one measure of the music.

riverenza a sort of courtesy, lasting a full measure.

saltarello a doppio with a little leap at the end.

piva a doppio in double-time.

mezza volta a half turn danced in one beat of music.

volta tonda one complete turn, usually consisting of two sempios in opposite directions followed by a ripresa, so that the whole move takes two measures to complete.
